Operations & Workflow

32 documents

10 daily and weekly routines · 9 operational and registration plans · 8 meeting and governance records · 5 crisis-communications templates

Most compliance failures in a care home are not policy failures. The policy exists; nobody ran the routine that would have caught the problem. Operations & Workflow is the module for the rhythm of the building — the start-of-day routine, the handover, the manager’s walkaround, the weekly heads-of-department review, the quarterly nominated individual visit that Regulation 6 expects. Documents that produce a governance record simply by being used.

The second half is what happens when something goes wrong in public. A confirmed outbreak, a death that attracts attention, a serious complaint that reaches social media, a journalist at the door. The crisis communications templates give a registered manager something to work from in the first two hours, when improvising is at its most expensive — a holding statement, a family bulk communication, a regulator and local authority engagement note, and a media response. All of it feeds Regulation 17: the governance evidence that shows a service is being run, not just staffed.

What this module is written against

Written for England. Every citation below is a CQC regulation, an English statutory instrument, or national guidance an English care home is measured against — no generic UK-wide hedging.

CQC Regulation 17
Good governance — meeting structures, audits and daily routines that generate a continuous record of oversight.
CQC Regulation 6
Nominated individual — the quarterly visit and the governance oversight expected of a body corporate.
CQC Regulation 12
Safe care and treatment — business continuity planning so care remains safe when the building, the staffing or the systems fail.
CQC Regulation 18
Staffing — handover, huddles and on-call arrangements that keep the right information with the right people.
CQC (Registration) Regulations 2009
Statement of purpose and the notification duties triggered by a major operational event.
Consumer law
The resident contract is written against the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the CMA’s consumer law advice for care homes.
